Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser is a soap substitute that doesn’t strip away your skin’s natural protective oils and it softens as it cleanses.

Independent tests show that its non-irritating hypoallergenic formula makes it one of the gentlest non-soap cleansers available.

How it works

Developed by dermatologists especially for sensitive skin, it can be used with or without water, is pH balanced and lanolin and fragrance-free. It is also non-comedogenic, which means it won’t clog pores and cause breakouts.

Cetaphil Cleanser is designed for all skin types including conditions like acne, eczema, psoriasis and rosacea. It can be used by everyone, including children and babies.

With acne-prone skin, it gently cleanses and moisturizes to remove the impurities that the skin doesn’t need, without stripping away its natural emollients. Over-cleansing or using a cleanser with harsh ingredients risks stripping away the skin’s necessary oils, which can lead to an overproduction of oil on the surface of the skin and trigger more acne.

How to use it

Use morning and night. Wet face with warm water to open pores. Put a pea-sized amount into hands, rub together and apply to face.

Rub into cheeks, forehead, nose and chin in circular motions. Massage into skin for at least 30 seconds. Splash on warm water to remove, or wipe away with a damp towel. Cetaphil Cleanser does not lather and stays a creamy consistency.

Ingredients

The main ingredient in Cetaphil Cleanser is water. It also contains cetyl alcohol which is classified as a lubricant.

Other ingredients include propylene glycol, which hydrates and increases moisture in the skin’s texture and tone to lessen flaking and dryness, and sodium lauryl sulfate which foams up and helps glide products over the skin easily.

The product also contains stearyl alcohol which is a fatty alcohol that smooths and softens the skin like an emollient.

What we liked…

  • There’s a large fan base for Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser. It’s suitable for cleansing all skin types, especially sensitive or irritated skin, and even the delicate skin of babies. It won’t sting your eyes and can remove make-up without clogging pores, as well as being suitable for the entire body.
  • It won’t irritate the skin, dry it out or upset its natural pH balance so it is safe to use as often as you like and doesn’t leave the skin feeling tight. It also rinses off easily, leaving the skin smooth and soft.
  • Acne sufferers say it helps clear up blemishes and helps with scarring. It’s especially ideal for acne sufferers with very sensitive skin who can’t tolerate salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide.

What we didn’t like so much

  • Some acne sufferers felt that their skin felt a little greasy after washing it off.
  • Some users said it was way too gentle to be effective on their skin and didn’t clean it. The product seems to work best on those with sensitive type skin so those  that don’t may want to use something a little stronger like proactiv cleanser.
  • Some were expecting it to lather but it doesn’t. It costs more than other gentle cleaners, but if it gives solid results it is worth it.

Who can benefit from this product

Cetaphil Cleanser is an effective cleanser that can be used for all skin types and is especially good for sensitive, dry skin and skin prone to acne, eczema and psoriasis.
